چکیده

Long Term Evolution (LTE), is a standard for radio communications of highspeed data transmission for mobile phones and data business [1]. It is based on the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM)/ Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution (EDGE) and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)/ High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network technologies, increasing the capacity and speed using new modulation techniques [1, 2]. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) are the key technologies of LTE. MIMO technology can significantly increase channel capacity and spectrum efficiency without occupying any more bandwidth. Signal detection algorithms are studied in this thesis: Zero-Forcing (ZF) detector, Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) detector, Maximum Likelihood (ML) detector, QR decomposition with M-algorithm maximum likelihood detector (QRM-MLD) and Sphere Decoding (SD) detector. The results of the study show that the optimal signal detector is superior to other signal detectors on bit-error-rate (BER) performance. The BER performance in a correlated MIMO-OFDM scenario of the detectors are also studied.

Performance Comparison of Various MIMO Detectors in Presence of Gaussian and Non-Gaussian Noise

The Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) – Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technology significantly provides high transmission rate and robustness against multi-path fading and other channel impairments. Mostly, MIMO-OFDM system is analyzed only in presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) only, but in practice, in many actual wireless environments impulsive characteri...

Selective Tone Reservation method for PAPR reduction in SFBC-OFDM systems

The high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and MIMO-OFDM systems reduces the system efficiency. In this paper, an extension of Tone Reservation (TR) method is introduced for PAPR reduction in Space Frequency Block Coded OFDM (SFBC-OFDM) systems. The proposed algorithm is based on a time domain kernel which is added to the signal of the anten...

OFDM and Downlink Physical Layer Design

In the last years the tendency to have higher data rates in cellular mobile phone networks, has been growing very rapidly. LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the current standard, which provides very high data rates having Orthogonal Frequency Multiplexing (OFDM) as a key feature. In this work rst is the question why OFDM is neccessary for LTE downlink is answered and then topics like OFDM receiver a...

Comparison between Performances of Channel Estimation Techniques for CP-LTE and ZP-LTE Downlink Systems

In this paper, we propose to evaluate the performance of channel estimation techniques for Long Term Evolution (LTE) Downlink systems based on Zero Padding technique (ZP) instead of Cyclic Prefixing (CP). LTE Downlink system is a multiuser system based on a MIMO-OFDMA technology. Usually, in OFDM systems, a guard interval is inserted in order to mitigate both inter-carrier interference (ICI) an...
